His and Hers XXIII
His and Hers is a weekly discussion of a question or topic relating to marriage. On Friday, my wife and I each write our thoughts on the week's topic. I invite other bloggers to do the same with their spouses as an exercise in celebrating marriage. This week's question is:
What is your favorite verse(s) in the Bible?
Mrs. Happy's response
"But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." —Matthew 6:33–34 (NIV)
I used to worry quite a bit, but I realize that worrying never has any benefit, and it steals joy away from the present. God wants us to have joy every day, so I try now to keep things in the proper perspective and enjoy each day as God expertly unfolds it.
Curt's response
"These things I have spoken to you, so that in Me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation, but take courage; I have overcome the world." —John 16:33 (NASB)
This verse has gotten me through the most difficult times in my life. I have found no more powerful statement of comfort anywhere. A promise from Jesus that I will experience hardship as long as I'm in the world, but that His peace crushes all conflicts. Sometimes I can close my eyes and feel Him telling me not to worry, that He's already won. And when Jesus tells you to take courage, who can stay discouraged?
