Marriage links for the week
I once described the nature and importance of blogparents, bloggers who help others get started in blogging. I mentioned that I'm sort of a blog orphan, having no blogparents of my own. The closest thing I have is role models (see left sidebar) that I think of as bigblogbrothers. When I wrote that post, I made a horrible omission, because in fact I also have something of a bigblogsister. When I first started blogging, IreneQ somehow became aware of The Happy Husband and offered some advice and encouragement as well as endorsement on her own (rather successful) blog. I'm not sure I ever offered adequate thanks or acknowledgement for that. Thank you, Irene.
I thought of that this week because she wrote a great post about singleness that I immediately bookmarked for inclusion in Saturday's roundup. Few people have the insight and the strength to say, "...although I hope to be married someday, I would rather be single than be trapped in an unhappy marriage or even a marriage where we each 'do our own thing' and live like strangers in the same house." I've seen too many people get married because they think they're supposed to, or because they don't want to be alone, or because they want (at their wedding) to feel like the center of the universe for just one day in their lives. Irene's right. It's better to be single than to be unhappily married.
I once went
off on Verizon for a commercial that belittled fatherhood. This
week, Miss O'Hara does
the same to Chrysler.
Joe Missionary shares his five favorite posts from Blogger Idol on the topic of love. Be sure to check out his entry as well. It includes an adorable photo of his son.
Katy McKenna and her husband sometimes have problems communicating. This time they're asking for some help from the blogosphere.
